The Village of Minerva Police Department is a full-service law
enforcement agency whose mission is to preserve & protect the community.

The Minerva Police Department consists of 1 Sergeant & 9 Full Time Patrolman, that provides
24 hour a day protection for the community under the direction of the Chief of Police.

Officers are responsible for protection of life & property through enforcement of state
laws and local village ordinances. Officers have responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Patrolling Village Streets
  • Prevent Crime or Disturbances of the Peace
  • Arrests, Cites or Warns Criminal or Traffic Offenders According to Severity & Nature of the Offense
  • Maintains Familiarity of the Village
  • Notes Suspicious Persons or Activities & Investigates
  • Assists Citizens & Motorists with Various Issues when Requested
  • Respond & Investigate Residential & Business Alarms
  • Traffic Control (As Needed)
  • Renders First-Aid at Scenes when Required
  • Provides Bank Escorts to All Local Businesses
  • Investigates & Writes Reports for Crimes & Traffic Accidents
  • Books Prisoners in to County Jails
  • Collects, Processes & Enters Evidence
  • Provides Assistance & Backup to Other Outside Agencies
  • Apprehends or Assists in the Apprehension of Criminals & Wanted Persons
  • Serves Court Subpoenas
  • Transports Prisoners
  • Provides Civil Stand-Byes
  • Testifies in Court when Required
  • Does Continuing Education & Annual Training (As Required)
  • Maintains Good Relationships with Residents
  • Many other Activities in Support of the Community

The Minerva Police Department Dispatch Department dispatches for the Village of Minerva & Sandy Creek Fire District. The Minerva Police Dispatch is responsible for all Police, Fire, EMS & 911 calls in our jurisdictions, as well as all Police & Fire radio traffic. The dispatch operates 24 hours a day with 1 dispatcher on duty at a time. There are 5 full time and 2 part time dispatchers. The dispatchers require months of training and are required to obtain and keep multiple certifications. Dispatchers currently work at a desk with 5 computers & 8 monitors that have the various computer software, resources and radio equipment used on a daily basis. The dispatchers are under the direction of the Dispatch Supervisor.

Dispatchers have responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Ability to handle and/or talk to callers involving life or death situations
  • Interviews callers to obtain sufficient information for all police, fire and medical incidents, reports and emergencies to properly dispatch appropriate assistance and keep responding units safe.
  • Ability to prioritize calls quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to determine jurisdiction, equipment, and personnel to dispatch the proper personnel and equipment to a call.
  • Ability to provide pre-arrival instructions for medical emergencies
  • Handle and monitor all Police-Fire-EMS radio communications at all times.
  • Assist other Police, Fire or EMS agencies with mutual aid needs, records, questions etc.
  • Ability to learn and operate complex electronic and dispatching equipment/software
  • Use computer-aided-dispatch (CAD) system
  • Enter warrants, missing persons, stolen vehicles or articles etc
  • Obtain and maintain numerous dispatching related certifications
  • Maintains status of all units on duty
  • Ability to search and interpret records and/or computerized data to assist police officers
  • Answer questions from the pubic and/or refer to the proper agency, department or office.
  • Ability to complete public record requests
  • Makes entries into and obtains information from the department computers and other resources available
  • Maintains records relating to functions of the Police, Fire and EMS departments.
  • Assist police officers in the preparation and completion of paperwork, charges, records etc.
  • Maintain incident reports, arrest log, call log, and other records and data in the records management system
  • Performs other routine clerical duties; filing, typing, and additional assignments when applicable.
  • Maintains the general security of the communication room and prevents unauthorized personnel from entering the department.
  • Assists in training of a new dispatch personnel.
  • Ability to go to or complete training courses related to dispatching or other assigned duties.
  • Search of females arrested
